About the Author: Curtis Winters
Curtis Winters studied music education at Brigham Young University, playing and soloing in the elite Synthesis jazz ensemble. After graduating he settled into his dream job as a junior high band director in Orem, Utah. During his 16 years in public music education he also taught improvisation at summer jazz camps with award-winning director Caleb Chapman and Grammy award-winning saxophonist Jeff Coffin. In 2009 Curtis returned to BYU and devoted several years to scholarly research while developing and testing the ultimate jazz improvisation method: Improv Pathways. Curtis continues to teach junior high band, and loves working with young musicians, composing, and playing jazz trombone.
